The first record I bought from TODD EDWARDS was his remix of ST GERMAIN‘s ALABAMA BLUES in 1995. I was really strucked by the uniqueness of his sound and the way he was inventing music, instantly fan.
Since the mid 90s he became THE Godfather of UK GARAGE and SPEED GARAGE and his productions were always mind blowing. His first album PRIMA EDIZIONE is just a masterpiece in its genre…
To describe the sound, well… it’s a patchwork, a collage of reworked soul samples, assembled in a more classical fashion following a SONG-FORM (intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge,ad lib’).
A remix from TODD is always a surprise as he finally invents a new track based on hints of the original one… he actually invents a song.
I remember once we were in CRYDAMOURE Studios discussing TODD EDWARDS‘ music with ERIC ‘RICO’ CHEDEVILLE (half of the Knight Club with Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo), Rico told us than no less than 80 samples are used to build up a track! Insane… So now imagine that TODD EDWARDS‘ released more than 200 tracks since his beginning! Mad :)
As a first episode and before getting deeper into his discography, I will let you enjoy some of TODD EDWARDS unique early work, so groovy and genuinely inspirational.
