The first track from FRED FALKE we have ever listened to was INTRO in September 2000. I remember this bomb being dropped in World Premiere by then French radio superstar MAX in his daily show LE STAR SYSTEM. The following morning, everyone who was into House music was already harassing DJ Shops to get it :D Everybody had to get his hands on this insane anthem.

Founded in Stockholm in 2011, Local Talk is run by Mats Karlsson aka Mad Mats and Tobias Lidström Tooli. Obviously those two Swedish deejays share the same profound love for Classic and Old-school House Music.

Back in 2008 FRENCH EXPRESS was started as a blog written by LEON OZIEL. Passionated about Electronic music genres such as la FRENCH TOUCH, NU DISCO and DEEP HOUSE; Leon aka PERSEUS got in touch with emerging artists through his writings and felt the need and the niche for a new label.

To kick off this new season of our show LE SPOT ON… we decided to start with PHIL WEEKS.

For this SPOT ON, we are going back in time in 1996, back to the roots of the FRENCH HOUSE MUSIC scene with the label CRYDAMOURE. GUY MANUEL DE HOMEM CHRISTO, one half of DAFT PUNK, founded the label with his friend ERIC ‘RICO’ CHEDEVILLE at first to release their own productions under their band name LE KNIGHT CLUB.

Starting up as a hip-hop Deejay in Stuttgart, Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction enjoys worldwide respect as a Deep House producer. 2014 as been a very prolific year for Soulphiction with brilliant releases such as Body & Soul, When Radio Was Boss or his remix of That Freak Stuff for Detroit Swindle.

Based in Perpignan, French artist Ludovic Llorca aka Art Of Tones has acquired respect amongst the Underground House Scene thanks to his consistent and brilliant productions over the last twenty years.

Berlin based artist Frank Timm aka Sound Stream has released a respectable amount of A-grade Underground House tunes. Operating under the names Sound Hack, Smith n’Hack and SSOL, Sound Stream always places quality over quantity in a market where DJ-stores are overfilled with soulless records. Frank Timm set his record label in 1999 to release his own music. With only five EP’s in ten years Sound Stream gained major respect and support from the House Scene and especially in 2008 thanks to his gorgeous Underground House hit Live Goes On.

Parisian Julien Auger aka Pépé Bradock is definitely one of the most acclaimed producers of the French Touch era. Swinging beats, brilliant cutups, smart structures, attitude, eclecticism and experimentation could define Pépé Bradock‘s music properly.

During the last couple of years, Amsterdam based duo Lars Dales & Maarten Smeets aka Detroit Swindle have produced a fairly high number of A-grade Underground House tunes.

During the last decade, Japan based artist Hirofumi Goto aka Rondenion has produced a fairly high number of tunes. Rondenion released records on big indie labels around the world such as Chicago’s Still Music or Amsterdamer Rush Hour Records that helped gaining major support from worldwide DeeJays.

Berlin based producer Max Graef is one of the most gifted up-and-coming artist of the Deep House scene. The twenty one years old German talent made his debut in 2013 on Tartelet Records and on Melbourne Deepcast with a very nice release entitled The Love Tapes. Max reached a wider audience with his now classic Deep House Broken Keyboard EP released on Detroit Swindles‘ Label Heist in October 2013.

Thanks to his remarkable releases on Wolf Music, Amsterdam-based producer Frits Wentink is definitely something of a rising star in the good House Music scene. Born in 1988, and graduated in sound design and musicology, Steve Mesink aka Felix Lenferink, aka Frederik Eisink, aka Urkelle, aka Will & Ink, aka Frits Wentink… is always freshening up his unique style and… monikers :)

Soulfuric Recordings is probably one of the most renowned labels in the soulful House Music scene and has released material from highly acclaimed artists such as Urban Blues Project, Copyright, Hardsoul, John Julius Knight, Ron Carroll to name a few.

Portsmouth based producer Leon Vynehall is definitely one of the most interesting up-and-coming artist of the Deep House scene. The English talent made his debut in 2012 on Well Rounded Housing Project and George Fitzgerald‘s label ManMakeMusic and reached a wider audience with his now classic House EP entitled BROTHER & SISTER released on Will Saul‘s Label AUS MUSIC in 2013.

Born and raised in the German Motor City of Stuttgart, Danilo Plessow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble released some of the most acclaimed Deep House tracks of the last 3 years. His incredible set of releases entitled Raw Cuts are as famous as his DJ Kicks mix compilation on the !K7 label.

Launched in 2000 by PHIL WEEKS, ROBSOUL RECORDINGS was first thought as a personal playground where he would be able to release his own work.

It all started late 2000s with this statement: I’M A HOUSE GANGSTER. Mr CARLOS SOSA aka DJ SNEAK himself launched the movement that since gained worldwide popularity; and this for a great cause, the sake of HOUSE MUSIC.

The first time we saw PHIL WEEKS live was in 2004 at the TERRASSA PARTY in Paris. He was opening for Chicago House Legend DJ SNEAK. I remember a super fat set which drove everybody insane. I also remember that the party started at 8:00pm and finished at 6:00am. It was a long, long House music run in a hot summer night. The following year he was there again, this time opening for DERRICK CARTER and once again the night was wicked and memorable.

Matthew Johnson aka MONOMAN is the founder of the British Manchester based label AMBUSHED. MONOMAN graduated from Leeds College of Music and is now part of Manchester based ESCAPE STUDIOS…

The first time I put my hand on an ALAN BRAXE‘s record was in 1997 at HMV in Leeds, it was VERTIGO on ROULÉ MUSIC, insane. The build up of this track is crazy and was instantly setting up dancefloors on fire…

CARLOS SOSA aka DJ SNEAK is amongst our most influential HOUSE MUSIC artist, he changed our lives. The first track we ever listen to from DJ Sneak was TRIBAL SEX in 1995, instantly hooked.

Legendary label founded in 1993 by JOHNNY « D » DE MAIRO and NICHOLAS PALMERO JR. aka NICKY P, HENRY STREET is just one of the best NYC House music label of all time.

The name sums it all, there is music before, and music after the MASTERS AT WORK…
Saying that they are influential is a weak word… They are the Masters! The originators of New York HOUSE MUSIC. They are HOUSE MUSIC… and they changed our lives forever…

The first record I bought from TODD EDWARDS was his remix of ST GERMAIN‘s ALABAMA BLUES in 1995. I was really strucked by the uniqueness of his sound and the way he was inventing music, instantly fan.

Talking about ROULÉ brings back so much memory… Honestly, one of the best FRENCH HOUSE label ever. THOMAS BANGALTER founded the label in 1995 for the purpose of releasing independent records parallel to the DAFT PUNK‘s project without any compromise. If you listen to DAFT PUNK‘s early work, live acts and interviews, you will understand that this label was really Thomas’ playground…

Back early 90s, there were two music movements and two inventive ground breaking styles of music: GRUNGE on the electric rock side, RAVE on the electronic one. Each one was at the very end of the music spectrum from one other, but both were very exciting and super innovating.
